allow me to introduce myself
Rising Chicago-area artist, Kevin Lustrup was born in Winfield in 1978 and began making art at an early age exploring comic books, science-fiction and fantasy. By age ten he was working with Bart Gunderson learning air-brush techniques and refining his drawing. As a youth he became interested in skate-boarding culture and street art. His love of music and learning to play bass and guitar started a love affair with punk rock and initiated his do-it-yourself attitude. He studied graphic design at the American Academy of Art in Chicago in the late 1990's and oil painting with Jennifer Kramer at the College of Dupage. By 2001 he was in Los Angeles working in a studio space at the Orbettello Gallery in East Hollywood where he showed his work regularly.
Upon arrival in Chicago in 2005, Kevin joined the fledgling Infidel Group and began showing at Around the Coyote, as well as various galleries and alternative spaces through-out the city. In 2008, he started collaboration with Danny Powell, introducing him to his LA thrash-style synthesis of Pop Art, Graffiti, Oil, and stencil making influenced by the grit of the streets of East L.A. Currently Kevin accepts commissions for portraits and does tattoo work. His upcoming show on May 23, 2009 will show-case the work of the last eight months, featuring large mural size canvases of saturated color and symbolic stencils.
